College of International Affairs, NCCU

Center for India Studies aims at promoting research and teaching of South Asia affairs. The Center focuses particularly on India foreign policy, India-Pakistan militarized conflicts, ethnic relations in South Asia nations, alignment policies of Pakistan and India, economic development in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, security related to Nepal, Bhutan, and India. The Center also encourages students who are interested in South Asia affairs to study or have exchange to universities in India. The College of International Affairs currently have an exchange MoU with Jindal Global University in India.   The Center was established under the auspice of Dr. Deng-Ker Lee, who served as the director. Ping-Kuei Chen became the director in 2021. With the support of College of International Affairs, the Center will continue to fulfill its mandates, cultivating more researchers and quality researches.    The Center has established partnership with Taiwan-India Study Association. Together with many other experts in Taiwan, the Center will promote India Studies and South Asia studies in Taiwan. The Center welcomes visiting researchers who are interested in conducting field research in Taiwan. Introduction   Australian studies is on the begining stage  in the domestic research. It's important for International Relations studies in several points. First, Australian diplomacy is the representative of middle power diplomacy, which focus economic and commercial diplomacy and multilateralism. It's worth keeping an eye on some significance in the post-cold war. Trade and economy are no longer low politics as they were in the cold war, and they become more and more important to international relations. Furthermore, more and more contries emphasize  multilateralism, and they expect to build international regimes and mechanism to manager and solve the international political economy problems.    The foreign policies of middle power are regarded as important, especially economic and commercial diplomacy  and multilateralism. Moreover, as natural resources are gradually consumed, Australia could be  our supplier of materials. In additon, the relation with Australia is meaningful for our expanding economic relations and diplomacy. Finally, the economy of Taiwan and Australia is complementary, rapid growing of mutual economic relations make Australia significant for Taiwan. Introduction   Cross-strait relations are the crucial issues of the academia. With the progress of “reform and open” policy, it brings growth of gross national income, expansion of foreign trade and prosperity of rural economy during the two decades. China plays an important role in world economy, especially after East Asian financial crisis of 1997. The economic situation promotes rapid development of cross-strait economic relations, and makes the economy between Taiwan and China interdependent.   There are the crucial issues discussed when China transferred planned economy into market economy. As economic globalization and Regional economy integration become the trend, how to cooperate between cross-strait to increase the international competency becomes the more important topic.
